Ohio-Kentucky Fall Consortium Meeting Summary

Last month the Ohio Kentucky Consortium conducted its first post-Summit conference to discuss clinical education with clinicians in our region. Our consortium members presented an overview of the events that led to The Summit as well as a summary of the The Summit process and the 15 preliminary recommendations that were made during The Summit.

Comments we heard during our breakout sessions include:

  • Academic programs need to provide more opportunities to improve clinical faculty teaching skills.

  • Partnerships should allow for more intimate individual program-site partnerships that are linked to a broader network.

  • Future partnerships in clinical education should involve the views of administrators as well as clinicians.

  • Future improvements in clinical education should address standardization in a variety of areas, such as clinical length, request forms, and learning objectives.

Followng our conference, The Summit recommendations were published in a final report on the ACAPT Website. This 24 page report is a great resource that we encourage you to read and discuss with the academic programs you affiliate with for clinical education.

What do you think needs to be prioritized and changed in clinical education?
